Homestead invites Chamber to picnic

MIDDLEBORO — This Sunday, members of the Cranberry Country Chamber of Commerce are invited to a family picnic at the Soule Homestead Education Center from noon-1:30 p.m.

Soule Homestead was named Business of the Year for 2011 by the Chamber of Commerce. As a token of their appreciation, The Homestead would like to invite all chamber members and their families to a BYO picnic and tour of the education center (the Homestead will provide the drinks). There will be a nature walk at noon, a farm tour at 12:20, children's activities 12:40, lunch and entertainment at 1.

"If you are a chamber member and ever wondered who we are and what we do, here is your chance to get to know us better," said a Homestead spokesperson.

On Saturday, a children's garden workshop will be held at the Homestead from 9-10:30 a.m. Children's educator Laurie Amberman leads this creative workshop designed for children ages 5-15.

Class participants will spend time in our children's garden getting ready for the planting season. They will learn about planning, planting, transplanting, weeding and watering a garden. The children will also plant a vegetable or flower to take home.

Also on Saturday, a quilting workshop will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Instructor Judy Rolt of J&J Quilts will guide the class through a variety of beginner or advanced projects. Participants should bring a sewing machine, fabric and supplies. Fabric is available at Soule for a small donation.
